Valentine's Day Week
February 14-20, 2011
I was sick with fresh cold…. But, probably a little home sick too because it was Valentine’s day.
There are many February birthdays in Laguna. This week was Shakira my old host sister and Mr. Shol the pastor of the House of Prayer and owner of the Laguna bus company.

Karate, Self Defense and then a Bday Party
Saturday and Sunday February 12 and 13, 2011
Kristin a PCV from PG came to Laguna to teach Karate classes to the kids and Self-Defense Classes to the women.
The boys and the girls loved Karate. However, the women were skeptical about coming to a self-defense class, but the women that did show learned a lot! It wasn’t a huge turnout (numbers wise), but I still believe it was a success.
After the classes that Kristin taught was a party for Stephanie a 12 year old in Laguna (however, she is originally from Orange Walk). They know how to throw a party. What a great time it was! The mother is a fabulous cook. She baked a beautiful cake and cupcakes. There were lots of games (musical chairs, dance contest, drinking (juice) contest, cupcake on a string eating contest, balloon popping contest.)

Softball Game
February 9, 2011
Today there was a softball game in Laguna. The ministry of education informed us that there would be a game just two weeks before (last minute notice is so common here in Toledo). Laguna did not have a softball team; however, since the tournament was in Laguna we had to create one!
We ended up doing really well, but we still lost to Toledo Christian Academy. However, when we played football (soccer) against them Laguna won!!! Wooohooo.
Also, at the softball game the Laguna GlOW girls sold oranges. We made about 40 dollars!!! Deserves another woooohooo!

WID/GAD (Women in Development and Gender and Development)
February 4, 2011
WID/GAD GLOW meeting in town- Today I went to town to discuss about fundraising ideas for GLOW with other PCVs. I am in charge of checking with local business to see if they are willing to donate. I am happy this year we are more on top of the game with fundraising than last year. I believe it is because we are more experienced.

Learning how to make Tamales
February 3, 2011
Today is Alvin’s first birthday! I was invited to go over to their house and learn how to make tamales. Tamales are a common food in Belize… and I am finally learned how to make it!

Bought my ticket to Cecy's Wedding!
January 31, 2011
Today Theresa helped me buy my ticket for Cecy’s wedding (April 30!!!) I can’t believe how soon it is coming. Cecy was so kind to give me her flyers mile (500 dollars) off my ticket so I can afford to go to her wedding! She really is my best friend. I wish we didn’t have to live so far away from each other!
