Mexico

Friday April 29, 2011

Today I decided to use the hotel Gym (it is so great to work out in air-conditioning and have cable TV). After the gym, Theresa and I went to the pool to tan, read, and relax.

After that we showered and got ready for our sightseeing tours. Today it was just Theresa and I because Cecy and Jose Victor were at the Spa and getting ready for the big day tomorrow.

Theresa and I went to the Governors house and Paseo Santa Lucia, also called River Walk, in English. This is a charming way to get from the museum area to the large Steel Mill. There is also an inexpensive boat ride along the artificial canal. (Theresa and I decided to walk it because we like to stop and take pictures). It was a beautiful place for pictures. We saw so many quince anos posing along the water.

Cecy told me that this Mountain is called the Saddle (bc it looks like one)

After the walk we went to the steel mill museum. It is called the Fundidora Park/Horno 3 steel Museum. This museum comprises a restoration of derelict 1960s blast furnace and a additional gallery and museum facilities. The museum chronicles the industrial history of this northern city, which for much of the 20th century was renowned for its steel production. Prior to its conversion to a museum, the abandoned blast furnace had stood as a poignant 80m high reminder of the hard working past of this city which has since moved on to embrace high-tech industries. The architectural challenge was to balance sensitive historic preservation against the requirement for a dynamic new symbol in its changed context, the surrounding steelworks having been converted recently into a public park. The new building needed to be inclusive and one that the older generations who worked at the former plant and their children and grandchildren would feel represented their proud history while looking forward to the future. Theresa and I had a GREAT day of sightseeing.
